Mission Statement
The mission of the Black History Showcase is to promote a greater awareness and appreciation of African American history. You cannot have a thorough knowledge of American history without having knowledge of the African American experience. Learning about the unique struggles, triumphs and contributions of African Americans will:
Heighten and reinforce African American pride
History is the basic knowledge that nourishes self-respect. The more one knows and understands about their history, the greater the impact on their self-esteem and racial pride.
Foster tolerance and respect between races
Understanding and appreciating the contributions African Americans have made to this nation in every field of endeavor can only foster tolerance and mutual respect thereby helping to eliminate prejudice and discrimination.
